Odds and Edges - Place & Proposition Bets

This page will be devoted to explaining the house advantage on the craps bets that derive their house advantage from those bets being underpaid.

Place Bets

The casino allows the players to make an immediate bet on any box number during any time in the game with out going through the pass line or come. These bets are called place bets and are paid differently than pass line or come bets. For the privilege of betting on any box number they extract a tax or house advantage from the payment of these bets. The tax or house edge varies on the place bet numbers more for the convenience of the bets and pay offs rather than by design.

The chart below shows the pay offs for the different numbers, the correct odds and the associated house advantage.

Number Correct Odds Pay Off Odds House advantage
4 2 to 1 9 to 5 6.667 %
5 3 to 2 7 to 5 4.000 %
6 7 to 6 6 to 5 1.515 %
8 7 to 6 6 to 5 1.515 %
9 3 to 2 7 to 5 4.000 %
10 2 to 1 9 to 5 6.667 %

Proposition Bets

All proposition bets are also underpaid. The chart below shows the bet, its pay off, the correct odds and the house advantage. All of these bets are one roll bets.
